Flash and HTML versions of the site. - NOTE THAT THIS PAGE DOES NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY IN THE HTML VERSION OF THIS SITE.YOU MUST HAVE FLASH PLAYER.
This website makes use of Adobe's Flash technology throughout and Adobe Flash Player (version 8 or later) is required to view the website as it was intended to be seen by those who visit. Flash Player is a FREE download from Adobe's website however; you only need to download it if you are seeing the HTML version of the website. Screenshots of the Home Page of both versions of the site are shown below:
Flash Version HTML Version
Although the HTML version of the website will show a majority of the content seen in the Flash version, there are some pages of the site that contain Flash only features. Some examples of this include: Online Chat, using the form on the Contact page, as well as creating posts in the Forum or Guestbook. More information on any Flash only features are found on the relevant page(s) the feature(s) is associated with.
To get the latest version of Flash Player, please go to the following URL: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
NOTE: Some devices which show the HTML version of the site when visited from its browser, may not be able to download and install the latest version of Flash Player to view the site normally. Examples of such devices that currently do not support the Flash version of this site include the PLAYSTATION 3 and iPhone 3G.
Main Features and Navigation of the site (relevant and viewable on the Flash version only).
The screenshot shown below is to help you understand the main features found on every page and to help you get used to navigating around the various pages that the website has:
Starting from to top-left and moving along to the right and then downwards, the key features on every page of the site are as follows:
- In the top-left corner of the site, whenever you go to another page, you might see the white "Loading..." indicator. This automatically disappears when all the content of that page has loaded and is ready for you to browse. The time it takes for a page to fully load depends on the speed of your internet connection.
- Further along the top of the site, are the member controls that allow you to become a member of the site for free or login to the site if you already are a member. Membership currently gives you access to the Online Chat and Forum features of the site, though more member-only features are likely to be added in the future.
- To the right of the member controls is the Music Player, which allows you to listen to the tracks that Andrew has uploaded to the site while you browse. The four buttons from left to right are Skip to Previous Track, Stop Playback, Play/Pause and Skip to Next Track. The name of current song selected is also shown to the right of here.
- The screenshot above is taken from the Home page of the site. It is for this reason that the word "Home" is shown in red so that's it's easy to tell where you are in the site. However, items in the menu bar also turn red when you hover your mouse curser over them. Some of these items, such as Music, will then display a drop-down menu, providing easy one-click access to the pages in that category.
RSS
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a common technology used over the internet to provide the people who subscribe to a particular RSS Feed, an easy way of being automatically updated about that topic. For example, if you were to subscribe to the "What's new at AndrewPortess.co.uk?" feed on this site, you would automatically be informed in your internet browser or e-mail if I have made any changes to the website. This is a much simpler way to keep people informed of topics that matter to them as well as the fact that it is far easier to manage and maintain.

Other Useful Info and Tips about the site.
- If you are unsure of what a group of pages contains, such as About, Music or Community, and want to find out exactly what they have to offer, simply click on the name of that group of pages rather than any items in the drop-down menu. You will then be taken to a page that explains what each page in that menu contains.
- If you find navigating the site difficult, it might be easier for you to go to the Sitemap/Links page where links to all other pages in the site are provided.
- Andrew is constantly trying to find ways to improve the site for those who visit it, and so your feedback is highly regarded. Please give your much valued opinion on either "The Website" part of the Forum, by commenting in the Guestbook or by Contacting Andrew directly. Thanks.
NOTE: Links on this page that contain a website address or URL (such as www.moonfruit.com) are links to websites that are in no way monitored or maintained by Andrew Portess and as a result they will open in a new window when clicked.
